Here’s a nice song for your Thursday, people. I would’ve posted it on my blog but I’ve already got a Mew video on there. Sharing the wealth. this song is from Mew’s newest album No More Stories… and it’s called “Vaccine.” anything that includes thumb piano is my friend.
Wild Letters: “Ghandi, Racist”
More recordings from the basement apt. of GMLondonjr. Anyone want to sing over this one/ add to it?
Today’s pick is The Most Serene Republic’s “The Men who Live Upstairs.” Not only do they allude to Igor Stravinsky (awesomeness) but this song incorporates a string quartet. I had the pleasure of seeing The Most Serene Republic in Chicago last summer at Wicker Park Festival. They had a ton of energy and put on a kick arse show. I also noticed that the bass player (I think) plays violin and trumpet.
How many people in this band? At least 6.
Also the same band. I had to put this up so you guys could witness the sheer amount of people on one stage. look dave, 2 cellists!
tomorrow I will post a new song by The Most Serene Republic. Love those guys. I encourage anyone else who wants to post a song of an influence to do so. sharing is caring.
here’s what I mean by “organization:” xylophone, a string trio, vocals, mandolin, keys, and more all being heard and making a catchy song. can we do this?
Wild Letters: “Hello Handsome”
Recorded in two takes last night in a fit of boredom. Bla Daow
Themselves & Why: ”Canada”
It’s high time that we, as a band, formally recognize that rock is dead. Like, issue a press release or something.
Japandroids: ”Wet Hair”
On this tune, the J-droids provide a pretty compelling argument for turning everything up and trying to cover a John Hughes movie. We should take heed.
You might also recognize the electronic drum/ sampler/ computer set up as used by this gentleman. “Panda Bear,” they call him, and he also belongs to some obscure group called the “Animal Collection” or some such name.
For Brian: Thanks to Ableton (+ my masterful use of it), we can rig your electronic drum kit to trigger midi/ samples in any way that we want. It could be especially cool if we used Jan’s keys to form some phrases/arps/effects that we could link to pads.
